Katorse: Will the 'magic kamison' still work?

The late ’70s and early ’80s, when the Regal Babies burst on the showbiz scene, were indelibly marked by, among other symbols, the Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde’s “magic kamison” which spelled M-A-G-I-C at the tills when worn in the “bold” launching starrers of Regal stars like Gina Alajar (Diborsyada), Cherie Gil (Problem Child), Rio Locsin (Disgrasyada), Kristine Garcia (Exploitation) and, who can ever forget, Dina Bonnevie in Katorse, a story of sexual awakening in which she was torn between two men, Gabby Concepcion and Alfie Anido, megged by Joey Gosiengfiao, that period’s campiest director.

That was 30 years ago, in 1979. The “magic kamison” (which was, according to urban legend, given by Remy Monteverde to Mother Lily as a honeymoon gift) now hangs in the Regal Matriarch’s cabinet as a remembrance of an era which sizzled with flicks that were insanely entertaining.

It’s 2009 and ABS-CBN is reviving Katorse on its Primetime Bida block, airing nightly for one season starting on June 8 with fresh new faces topbilled: Erich Gonzales playing Dina’s character torn between Ejay Falcon (Gabby’s role) and Xian Lim (Alfie’s role). At the helm is Malu Sevilla.

Nope, Erich isn’t wearing Mother Lily’s mothballed “magic kamison” but a new one. Will it spell the same “magic” and make the rating soar?

Ejay was the top “graduate” of the Pinoy Big Brother 2008 edition, Erich the winner of the 2005 Star Circle Quest and Xian the latest addition to the fast-growing roster of US-bred Pinoy talents.

Besides being products of broken homes (an information they freely volunteered), the three have another thing in common: They were not born yet, were not even a glint in their parents’ eyes, when Katorse was shown.

“But before we started shooting,” said Erich, 19, who hails from Davao, “we were made to watch a DVD copy of Katorse. It’s a fun movie set at a time far different from today.”

“Wala pang celfone noon,” said Ejay, 18, who grew up loading sacks of copra and abaca at the pier of a Mindoro town with his adoptive parents (Ejay’s biological father, whom he hasn’t seen yet, is French). “Wala pang Internet.”

“At wala pang video-video,” added Xian, 19, who spent his first 10 years in San Francisco with his mom, without actually referring to the current controversy around the sex video of Dr. Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili.

Come to think of it, how would they react if they were confronted one day with copies of similar videos featuring them? In this age when everything is possible, especially with the “splicing” or digital-altering process, stars are easy prey to sick minds.

“I’ve been a victim, too,” said Ejay who was rumored to have “starred” in a video with another guy. “‘Yon pala, kahawig ko lang ‘yung guy.”

In local showbiz, a male aspirant is suspected to be — take your pick — a closet queen, a macho dancer, the boytoy of a gay benefactor, an unwed father or a call boy as part of his initiation into the, grrrr, lions’ den. Female aspirants are not spared from the same roasting.

“I almost gave up,” said Ejay. “I’m glad I did not.”

During an acting workshop organized by ABS-CBN with Gina Alajar as facilitator, the three underwent such sessions as “Sensuality” (designed to make them overcome discomfort or self-consciousness during love scenes, no matter how tender) and “Being” (in which they pour out pent-up emotions and, if any, accounts of traumatic experiences).

“We talked about mostly family problems,” said Xian, an only child, 6’2” tall and 25 percent Chinese, who had his early schooling in San Francisco and is now enrolled at the University of the East where he’s a varsity player. “My parents are separated but they have remained friends; they have constant communication. My father, Godofredo Lim, used to play basketball; he was the contemporary of Alan Caidic.”

“I’ve never known my father,” said Erich, youngest of three children. “He left us when I was barely two years old.” (Her father was reported to have died only recently).

“I, too, haven’t seen my father,” seconded Ejay, “not even in pictures.”

Together, they bring a lot of “angst” into the revived Katorse which has to be tamer than the original, understandably so because it’s on primetime TV watched also by minors.

“Mayroong love scene pero tender,” assured Erich who claimed that it’s only on Katorse that she’s having her first kiss ever, from Ejay.

It would have been a good idea if Dina and Gabby were in the cast to give Katorse some “continuity.” Instead, included are the likes of Cherie Gil and Gardo Verzosa.

Katorse served as Dina and Gabby’s springboard to stardom (sadly, Alfie died, at 20, just when the Big Time was a grab away).

Will the “magic kamison,” even if not the orig, still work for Erich, Ejay and Xian?

Just wait and see.

Hayden Kho's apology not enough, Katrina says

MANILA, Philippines - Actress-model Katrina Irene Pe Halili was not impressed Friday with the apology of celebrity doctor Hayden Kho over the scandal that erupted from their sex video that was uploaded on the Internet.

Halili said a forced apology from Kho is not enough to atone for what he did, adding she will continue her legal battle against him and those who uploaded the video.

Dapat siya [ay] parusahan [I find it difficult to forgive him just like that. And his apology should not be a forced one. That apology should not get him off the hook. He should bepunished]," Halili said in an interview on dzBB radio.

She said Kho had told her the video was in his personal collection and that he never meant to post it on the Internet.

But when told that Kho deplored the video was posted without his knowledge, she said; "Di ko po alam kung anong merong klaseng pagiisip meron ang taong yan, di ko alam [I don't know what kind of mind he has. I really don't know].

"When asked if she believed Kho's apology and explanation, she said she might believe the part that he did not know the video would be posted online.

"Pero wala akong pakialam sino nagkalat, nandoon na, pinagpipiyestahan na ng tao [I don't care at this time who posted it online. The damage is done]," she said.

She said she had included Eric Johnston Chua, a friend of Kho who supposedly posted the video online, in her complaint before the National Bureau of Investigation.

When told that Kho said he is suspending his medical practice, Halili said: "Naku dapat lang naman talaga [It's about time].

"Halili also confirmed the account of Kho's former girlfriend Vicky Belo that Kho underwent "professional counseling." She said Belo told her about it last December.

For now, she said she is just resting and is avoiding reading the newspapers or Internet news sites.

Halili lodged a complaint against Kho before the NBI on Wednesday, a day after Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. delivered a privilege speech lambasting Kho for the video's being posted online.

She has also asked the Professional Regulations Commission to revoke Kho's medical license.

Richard Gutierrez caught in a car accident

Kris Allen wins American Idol

American Idol has crowned 23-year-old college student Kris Allen from Conway, Arkansas, as its new winner. Kris beat 27-year-old stage actor Adam Lambert from San Diego, California, in the finale of American Idol Season 8 held earlier today, May 21 (May 20, U.S time), at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

A night before the grand finale, Kris and Adam faced off for their final performances wherein they sang three songs each: their favorites, American Idol creator Simon Fuller’s choice, and this season’s victory anthem "No Boundaries" (co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi).

In the first round, Adam performed Tears For Fears "Mad World," which he first sang during The Year They Were Born week; while Kris performed Bill Withers’s "Ain’t No Sunshine" from Popular iTunes Downloads week.

In the second round, Fuller chose Sam Cooke’s "A Change Is Gonna Come" for Adam, and Marvin Gaye’s "What’s Going On" for Kris.

Finally, Adam and Kris both performed the victory anthem "No Boundaries" but with entirely different versions; Adam went to the rock road while Kris gave it a pop-R&B sound.

The match-up between Kris and Adam is one of the most interesting in the history of American Idol. As host Ryan Seacrest perfectly puts it: "acoustic rocker" (Kris) vs. "glam rock" (Adam). Adam is known for his "theatrics" and his mad vocal range while Kris is at his best when he is with playing an instrument (guitar or piano) acoustic style and making each song his own.

In the end, Kris prevailed and won the hearts-and votes-of America with almost 100 million votes cast.

Kris’s victory is considered by many as a surprise since the American Idol judge-Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi-favored Adam along with third placer Danny Gokey; to the extent that Simon even reminded the viewers to make sure to vote for the rocker to ensure his place in the Top 2. The other judges were also very generous in giving their comments to Adam. But Kris has proven himself by infusing his personal touch in every song.

Kris was almost speechless after Ryan announced him as the new American Idol. Even Kris was surprised by his victory that he said, "Adam deserves this."

The more than two-hour grand finale featured spectacular musical numbers from the American Idol finalists and special guest performers.

The Top 13 opened the show with Pink’s "So What"; followed by last year’s winner David Cook performed his single "Permanent"; finalist Lil Rounds sang a duet with Queen Latifah; finalists Anoop Desai, Alexis Grace, and the rest of the Top 11 with Jason Mraz performed "I’m Yours"; Kris with country singer Keith Urban sang "Kiss A Girl"; the female finalists performed with Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas; fourth placer Allison Iraheta with Cyndi Lauper sang "Time After Time."

Third placer Danny Gokey performed "Hello" and then he was joined by Lionel Richie; Adam rocked the house with Kiss; Carlo Santana with the Top 13; finalists Megan Corkey and Matt Sarver with comedian Steve Martin; the male finalists with Rod Stewart; Adam and Kris closed the show with "We Are The Champions" accompanied by the remaining members of legendary rock band Queen.

Even new Idol judge Kara Dioguardi took the stage with "Bikini Girl" Katrina Darrell singing "Vision of Love."

Kris succeeded last year’s winner David Cook, who incidentally staged a very successful concert with his runner-up, David Archuleta, here in Manila last May 16.

Other winners of American Idol include Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, and Jordin Sparks.

For winning American Idol, Kris went home with one million dollars and a chance of a lifetime. Both Adam and Kris got a brand new car from Ford.

Katrina Halili on fight against sex video scandal culprits: “Hindo ako uurong…”

Mamyrlito Tan at Raymond Palad.

Sharon ups 'reward' money to P10-M!

Remember the P1-M “reward” money Sharon Cuneta put up last year for whoever could produce “hard evidence” (pictures, etc.) that her husband, Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, has a mistress?

Sharon named that “price” sure as she is that the persistent rumor is untrue and without basis.

Don’t look now but Sharon is even willing to raise the amount to — hold your breath — P10-M because she said she knows fully well, convinced beyond any doubt, that the rumor is the product of an evil mind’s wild imagination.

“In this age of the Internet and sophisticated cellphones,” said Sharon during a one-on-one with Funfare the other day after the press launch of her new album Children’s Rhymes and Lullabies (released by Sony Music), “how come nobody is producing any proof?”

The “old issue” was casually brought up during the one-on-one because Kiko has already announced his intention to run for vice president in the 2010 elections, again as an Independent like he did in 2007 when he ran for reelection.

For sure, skeletons will be rattled and Kiko’s opponents will dig up as much “dirt” (if any) as they can, including the yarn about his having “another woman” with whom he has not just one but two children (daw).

“What else can they throw at us?” asked Sharon. “Everything about us is public knowledge.
There’s nothing left to dig up.”

Asked if she’s ready to be a Second Lady, Sharon said she is.

“It’s something you should prepare for.”

Sharon graced the Rock The Vote concert held a few days ago to encourage new voters (numbering more than one million) to register and, that’s it, vote in 2010. Kiko was among those who organized the event.

“I am supporting my husband all the way,” she stressed, adding that she and Kiko thoroughly discussed his 2010 plan before Kiko announced it. “I believe in my husband’s ability.”

Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos is being lured by some presidentiables as their running mate. If Gov. Vilma says “yes,” she’ll be pitted right smack with Kiko.

What if...? Funfare asked Sharon who is an avowed Vilmanian.

“Of course,” she said, “I will have to root for my husband. I’m sure Vilma will understand. If, for example, her husband Ralph (Recto, director-general of the National Economic Development Authority) would run against my husband, siempre Vilma would rally behind Ralph.”

In the meantime, while the start of the campaign is eight months away, Sharon is focused on her career.

Her latest movie, Star Cinema’s BFF (Best Friends Forever), a riotous comedy directed by Wenn Deramas and co-starring Ai-Ai delas Alas, shows to the hilt Sharon’s comic side which has never been fully exploited. BFF pokes fun at the two stars’ physical defects — Sharon’s excess poundage and Ai-Ai’s prominent chin — and moviegoers lap up with gusto the two stars’ self-deprecating humor.

“I enjoyed doing the movie,” admitted Sharon. “It was so much fun that after the shooting, I really missed everybody.”

She’s now busy promoting the Sony album which is divided into four parts, each consisting of English songs with corresponding Filipino translations: School/Learning Time (Alphabet Song, Seven Days a Week/Pitong Araw Sa Isang Linggo, Sampung Mga Daliri, etc.); Play Time (I’m A Little Teapot/Ako Ay Maliit na Pitsel, Maliliit Na Gagamba/Eency Weency Spider, etc.); Activity Time (Magtanim Ay Di Biro/Bahay Kubo, Leron Leron Sinta, etc.); and Sleep Time (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, When You Wish Upon A Star, etc.), plus the bonus track You’re My #1 from Sharon’s Nido Milk TV commercial. The CD comes with a Sing-Along with Sharon Disc 2.

She’s also preparing for her US concert tour that will start at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, produced by US-based journalist Jackie Regala; and, possibly, the production of an indie movie in which she herself might star.

But even if she and ex-husband Gabby Concepcion have recently already “made peace” personally when they crossed paths in ABS-CBN, much to the relief of their daughter KC who had been wishing for it, Sharon dismissed any possibility of them doing a “reconciliation” movie (preferably with KC) — not now anyway...not with the forthcoming 2010 elections.

“I don’t want my family to be dragged into the movie’s promotion and publicity,” said Sharon, referring especially to her and Kiko’s young daughters Frankie and Miel who are too young to draw a line between the reel and the real. “It’s enough that Gabby and I have talked na personally although we’d been talking on the phone.”

And what did she and Gabby talk about this time?

“Wala lang. About small things.”

Nothing heavy, really.

Marian Rivera reveals the name of her “boyfriend” at John Lapus’s Sweet 16 show

The question is, dapat bang seryosohin ng mga nanood ang sinabi niya or part of the script lang talaga?

Raymond pursues his own American Dream

When Funfare met last week with Raymond Bagatsing at the coffee shop of the Beverly Hilton (where the international journalists were billeted for the print/TV interviews with Terminator Salvation stars Christian Bale and Sam Worthington...more on them in this Sunday’s Conversations with Ricky Lo), he begged off from talking about his private life.

It was understandable. When he married L.A.-based journalist Cora Pastrana last year, the thirtyish Raymond was roundly criticized (nay, ridiculed!) for marrying a woman twice his age even if, he insists, he did it for love and not for the papel (you know...).

Instead, we talked about his pursuit of his own American Dream.

He has been in L.A. for more than two years, spending his first several months doing some “soul-searching.”

“I rested from being showbiz and lived a simple life,” said Raymond, still goodlooking with shoulder-length hair. “Why did I have to soul-search? Kasi nga, I’d been in showbiz for 20 years and I wanted a change of pace, go back to basics, and enjoy life as an ordinary person. Now, I’m ready to return to showbiz. My manager and I have several plans.”

His manager, Everett Wood (who accompanied Raymond to the interview), said that they are preparing an album to be recorded in the US but released in the Philippines and finalizing a plan for Raymond to star in an indie film.

“I have gotten adjusted to the American way of life,” added Raymond. “It wasn’t hard for me because I spent several years in Australia with my mother. I was there when I was 10 years old until my college years. Life in Australia and life in America are almost the same — you know, no maids, at talagang kayod.”

It wasn’t a total turning-back on showbiz, though.

“I first came (to L.A.) in 2006 to play Jose Rizal in a one-man play. Every now and then, I would sing for Filipino communities. But I spent most of my time doing muni-muni.”

Asked what he missed most about the Philippines, Raymond said, “A lot. My friends, my fans, everybody and everything.”

Isn’t he coming home yet?

“Not in the near future. But I will, in due time.”

Come to think of it, will he and his wife have a baby...soon?

“No, not yet. She’s concentrating on her work and so am I on mine.”

Manny Pacquiao’s last fight is slated in October

WILLING TO SERVE.

PRESIDENT PACQUIAO?

Ano ang immediate plans niya after his next fight?

GREATER THAN "THE GREATEST"?

‘Saan galing?’ ‘Pilipino.’ ‘Ahh, Pilipino."

Tinalbugan na nga raw niya si Muhammad Ali, a three-time heavyweight world champion. Ano reaction niya?

This is sports. We were just doing our job sa ring na mapasaya ang mga tao, ma-entertain silang lahat."

LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE. Right after that, magpa-file na siya ng candidacy niya sa COMELEC (Commission on Elections). But how true na natalo siya ng mahigit P100 million nung huling tumakbo siya sa General Santos nung eleksyon ng 2007?

"Like what I’ve said, I learned a lot from that experience."

What about movies? May gagawin ba siyang pelikula? With whom?

"No comment."

Danny Gokey describes Idol run as 'tragedy to triumph'

MILWAUKEE – Thousands of screaming fans, being asked to sing the national anthem at a major league baseball game and a parade: It was all too much for "American Idol" finalist Danny Gokey, who returned to his hometown of Milwaukee last week.

During the parade, the 29-year-old truck driver cried.

"It's unbelievable," Gokey told former "Idol" contestant Jamar Rogers

.The 29-year-old Gokey, who was voted off Wednesday, said he was grateful to the show and that his "life has turned around: I can't say that enough." With the vote, "Idol" now pits dark horse Kris Allen against early favorite Adam Lambert.

Gokey has come far in his transformation from an unknown widower to the third-place finisher on the popular Fox singing show.

"From tragedy to triumph," he said.

Less than a year ago, Gokey's wife of 12 years, Sophia, died after surgery for a congenital heart defect. He was so shocked, he couldn't cry at her funeral.

Sophia had been an "American Idol" fan, and they had agreed he would try out. Gokey, then 28, reached the upper age limit for the audition, but a month after her death, he auditioned in Kansas City.

Gokey, a volunteer church music director who knows mostly gospel music, had to learn new songs every week. He also tailored his image, turning his collection of more than 50 pairs of funky glasses and the heart symbol he makes with his hands into his signatures.

He has said he decided long ago to put away bitter feelings and enjoy life, which recently included being tutored by actor and singer Jamie Foxx, complimented by Simon Cowell as "one of the best" and adored by Paula Abdul, who cried when he was voted off the show.

"My whole testimony is overcoming," Gokey said. "Overcoming the impossible in my life, and now I want to take that message and tell people, 'If I can do it, you can do it.'

"Gokey plans to take that message on the road this summer when he tours with the show's top 10 finalists and in charity work for Sophia's Heart Foundation, which he started after his wife died. He said he also wants to make a rhythm and blues CD, although he hasn't yet signed a record deal.

Gokey's 34-year-old brother Charles said his family was devastated by the vote, but that Gokey was now free from "Idol" contracts to do what he wants, including volunteer work.

"I'm a little sad, but at the same time it's a new beginning," said Charles Gokey. "It's a happy beginning for what he can accomplish, with all the exposure he's had."

"I was a nobody, and this show turned me into somebody and I'll always be thankful for the roots that I came out of because I do believe that still the best has yet to come for me," Danny Gokey said on a recent conference call with reporters. "This is not the end of the road." – AP

Body Talk with Manny Pacquiao

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of Sarangani!

That was how Pacman, the Pambansang Kamao no less, was introduced in Las Vegas last May 2 during his title bout with Ricky Hatton whom he knocked out not once, not twice, but thrice in the first two rounds, making him the greatest boxer of (perhaps) all time after also scoring wins in several other divisions.

And that’s how Pacman prefers to be identified now that he is determined to venture into another ring — the political ring. In 2007, he ran for Congressman in his native GenSan and lost to Darlene Custodio, Ang Dating Kampeon. In 2010, Pacman is deadset on running again for the same position, this time in Sarangani, never mind if well-meaning fans and admirers are advising him against it because they’d rather see him where he should be — in boxing, whether in action or, eventually, as trainer of would-be champs — and not somewhere else.

Pacman has been hinting that after one more fight, he will hang his gloves. “He should enjoy his millions,” according to unsolicited advice from well-meaning fans and admirers, “and stay away from the dirty world of politics.”

Last Thursday, Funfare sat down with Pacman for a “body talk” during a victory party hosted by former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson at his home in Corinthian Gardens, Quezon City. Throughout the brief interview, Pacman kept rubbing his eyes. He was sleepy and couldn’t hide it. As the party progressed, Pacman was soon in his element especially when he was asked to sing. Winner!

The next night, he was in GenSan enjoying the 60th birthday bash of his mom, Aling Dionisia, together with more than 400 invited guests.

What’s your regular workout?

“I don’t do boxing; I play basketball.”

Of course, iba ang workout mo when you are preparing for a fight.

“Iba. Ibang-iba. I jog in the morning as warm-up.”

Nagbo-ballroom-dancing ka ba like Aling Dionisia?

“No, I don’t.”

There are offers (daw) for Aling Dionisia to do a TV show or a movie. Will you let her?

“Kung saan siya masaya, doon ako.”

She will soon shoot (daw) a TV commercial for a laundry soap. Okay lang ba sa’yo?

“Okay lang.”

What’s your diet before a fight?

“Filipino food. Dapat hindi pabago-bago ang kinakain mo.”

What part of your body is your favorite?

(Smiles) “What do you think?”

Of course, your left hand. It’s lethal, pamatay.

“Dati, I often used my left hand. But I have started also using my right hand. During my last fight, I used my right hand for the first time at okay naman.”

So, Hatton was the first victim of your right hook.

“Yes, si Hatton.”

How do you take care of your hands?

“Nothing special. I exercise my hands by just opening and closing them.”

You’re cracking your knuckles. Hindi ba masama ‘yon?

“I don’t think so.”

What part of your body is vulnerable?

“My muscles.

”How much sleep do you get per night?

“When I’m training, I get from seven to eight hours.”

What’s the last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“I eat and rest a little. And then, tulog na.”

And the first thing that you do when you wake up?

“Brush my teeth.”

What’s your favorite sleep wear?

“Jogging pants.”

Do you sleep with the air-con turned on full blast?

“Yes, malamig. Mga 70 degrees (Fahrenheit).”

What are the upside and downside of being a superstar? Time has chosen you as one of The 100 Most Influential People in the World.

I like that. But now, I can’t go around the mall anymore without attracting attention, so I don’t go to the mall anymore.”

But you have bodyguards. How many do you have ba?

“Secret!”

How do you unwind? Do you get a massage; do you go to the spa?

I’d rather spend my free time with my family.” (The Pacquiaos have just bought a $2.1-M house in L.A., occupying one thousand square meters, with four bedrooms upstairs and a den downstairs. According to a Funfare DPA, the house is exclusive for the family and the rented condo unit in Beverly Hills is open to Team Pacquiao when Manny is training for a fight.)

How do you cope with stress?

“I listen to music.”

Are athletes supposed to abstain from sex before a game/fight?

“Oo. Dapat lang.”

Mga how many weeks before a game/fight?

“At least 20 days before a fight.”

Si Jinkee ba kaya kang i-knock-out?

(Doesn’t answer; only smiles)

In the GMA action-adventure Totoy Bato, you play almost a real-life role. Which is harder, acting or boxing?

(Smiles) “Ano sa tingin mo?”

You are good at both, even in singing.

“Mas mahirap ang boxing. Totohanan ‘yon, eh.”

What are your bathroom habits?

“I just take a shower.”

Don’t you sing in the bathroom? Don’t you rehearse in the bathroom since you are also a singer?

“No, I don’t. Basta ligo lang talaga.”

You always pray in your corner of the ring during a fight. Do you have a special prayer?

“Wala naman. I just pray for my safety, na huwag ako mapahamak, na sana iligtas Niya ako.”

Do you have a favorite saint?

“Wala naman. When I pray, diretso kay Lord.”

What’s one thing that you can’t do without?

Vic Sotto hosts his first game show via Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

You know what’s fun with it? Ang maganda sa Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, kahit nanonood ka lang, you get to participate, e.

"And you as a viewer, you get to cheer the contestant. And this time, meron pa kaming i-introduce na texting game also for the home viewers, in the episodes to come," pahayag ni Vic nang ma-interview siya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) iba pang entertainment press sa presscon ng Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? na ginanap kahapon, May 14, sa Katre Restaurant sa Dr. Lazcano St., Quezon City.

Base ang Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? sa original British format, kung saan maglalaban-laban ang mga contestants from all over the country para makaabot sa "hot seat," at doon magsisimula ang pag-akyat sa million-peso jackpot by answering 15 multiple choice questions correctly.

The Audience, 50/50, at Phone a Friend options. Mapapanood ang Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? tuwing Sabado, 6 p.m., simula sa May 23 sa TV5.

Bukod sa paninibago sa hosting dahil first game show nga niya ito, ayon kay Vic ay naninibago rin siya sa pananamit dahil madalas na naka-amerikana siya or formal wear sa Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.
"Pogi ako dito!" tawa niya. "Amerikana pa lang ulam na. May stylist ako rito. Yung buhok ko, naka-wax. Nanibago rin ako. Siyempre sanay tayo sa casual. Just doing my thing in Eat Bulaga!.

"First game show ko ito, aside from the games na meron kami sa Bulaga, Plus the fact na I believe Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? started it all, e, dun sa new breed of game shows. Everybody followed. But of course, they always say na the original is always the best. It’s still the best game show ever."

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

"Yes, I am," sagot niya. "I feel glad and I feel excited. I feel honored and flattered that na-offer sa akin ito. Not in my wildest dream na I would end up as a host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

BATTLE OF GAME SHOW HOSTS.Nagkausap ba sila ni Christopher de Leon, na unang nag-host ng Philippine version ng show?

"Hindi naman, kasi ito namang Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, merong siyang bible that we have to follow technically. They have the camera shots. As much as possible, we have to follow the original format. The way the host will handle the game as a whole. Yung relationship sa contestants.

"Mabalik tayo kay Boyet [Christopher]... Sabi ko nga, I was an avid viewer of the show. I was watching him before. And in fairness kay Boyet, he did a good job.

But whatever it is, hindi ko naman iniisip yung awards-awards. Basta ang iniisip ko, ang importante, we would be able to come up at par dun sa nakalagay sa bible. And I’m just proud an happy to tell you na we got very good feedbacks from the British representatives after the pilot taping last night [May 13]. Masaya, masaya sila."

Mahirap pala.

"So, after quite a number of sit downs and meetings, parang pre-production stuff, when I finally came to the studio to do rehearsals, with mock contestants, mock audience, dun ko naramdaman yung pressure. It was quite complicated. Pero after last night [May 13], para kaming nabunutan ng tinik after getting positive feedback from the British representatives."

I don’t have any contract with them naman," sagot niya

In-offer-an din ba siya ng GMA-7 ng game show?

"No comment," pag-iwas ni Vic.

GAME SHOW HOST OR CONTESTANT? Given a chance, gusto rin ba niyang maging contestant?

"Contestant? I’ll be a good contestant, I think. Sayang, hindi lang ako naimbitahan noong una. Pero I think I’ll be a nice contestant to deal with."

She’s a wide reader. Well-informed.

It just came later na lang."

"She was very happy and excited for me. At she’s giving me all the support, moral support. Kasi napansin niya medyo natutulala ako bago kami nag-actual taping. Coming home from rehearsals, hindi ako matulog, e. Ewan ko, but this time, I was really... na-tense ako talaga. I was nervous, parang tuyung-tuyo yung lalamunan ko when I was doing the opening spiels."

"Dinner lang or watch movies. Sa bahay, watch TV, TV series

OYO SOTTO.

E, hindi alam ni Oyo na sumagot na ako before he even talked to me. I remember na nag-uusap kami ni Malou ngayon, the following day, nakita ko si Oyo. Sabi niya, ‘Dad, meron daw gustong kumuha sa iyo? ‘Sabi ko, ano , yan Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ ‘Oo yun, ‘sabi niya. Sabi ko, ‘Sumagot na ako.’ ‘Yun, okay yun. Magkasama tayo dun.

Darating yun, darating yun."

Ano ang feeling na naging close sina Oyo at Kristine through his movie Enteng Kabisote?

"Okay lang. I have nothing against it. Wala namang problema yun.

Excited naman siya first time niya yun nag-Mother’s Day, e."

Kapag may hiningi, ibigay. Pag kinakailangan lang, that’s the only time na lalapit sila.

NEW MOVIE.

"Originally, it was Richie [D' Horsie], pero he’s sick right now. Medyo nai-stroke ng konti, e. Nung lumabas kasi [mula sa kulungan], namantikan yung bituka, nanibago, ayun, nai-stroke yung kabayo! Pero he’s okay now. Kaya si Wally ang kapalit niya."

How about si Jose Manalo, na lagi niyang sidekick before?

Ruffa Gutierrez files custody case in QC court

MANILA, Philippines - Actress and former beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez-Bektas has asked the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to award to her the custody of her two minor daughters.

Gutierrez-Bektas, whose real name is Sharmaine Gutierrez, filed a petition for custody in which the defendant is her estranged husband, Turkish businessman Yilmaz Bektas.

The case docketed as Civil Case No. Q-09-64795 is now assigned at the sala of QCRTC Branch 107 Presiding Judge Jose Bautista, Jr.

The contents of the petition, however, were not revealed since the case falls under the jurisdiction of a family court.

But it was learned from the sala of Judge Bautista that summon has already been sent to Bektas in his address in Istanbul, Turkey informing him of the petition filed against him.

It was also learned that the court would still determine if the case is under its jurisdiction or whether it is not dismissible before it would schedule a hearing.

The estranged couple got married in The Fort, Taguig on March 25, 2003. They had two daughters ages Lorin, 5 and Venice 4.

But on May 8, 2007, the couple announced their mutual decision to end their four-year marriage. Ruffa returned to the country with her two daughters on tow.

Several reports disclosed that the actress is already ready to file an annulment of their marriage but up to this time, no petition for annulment has yet been filed.

Sharon Cuneta says guest role of Gabby Concepcion in BFF is not a prelude to their reunion movie

premiere night last Tuesday, May 12.

Kiko Pangilinan; at ang anak niyang si KC Concepcion with Piolo Pascual as her date. Malakas din sa takilya ang first day of showing ng BFF kahapon, May 13, dahil reportedly ito ay kumita agad ng P16 million.

“I’m happy dahil nagbunga na yung pinaghirapan namin. Working in this film is really great. Also, I was thrown in the company of already great comedians. So, nagtatanong talaga ako,’Tama ba itong ginagawa ko?’ Ayokong maging OA [overacting].

FUN WITH BFF CAST.

Sila yung professional talaga, yung magaling. Kasi reyna na siya, e. She’s very generous, na-appreciate ko yun."

"Siguro depende siguro sa relationship mo with the person. Kasi dito, naging close yung characters namin ni Ai. So, nung malaman na namin... Di ba, yung iyak ko, nung mabuko... Dahil pareho mong mahal, ganun.

"It’s such a joy to work with John. Actually, he is on the list of my Top 3 leading men.

May encouragement, yung ganun.

So, we had a pretty clear idea of what’s going to happen. It’s a nice surprise for our fans. Nagpapasalamat din kami na pumayag si Gabby."

Can she say na unti-unti ay nagiging maayos na ang lahat between her and Gabby?

Pero hindi na lang siguro nagma-matter yung iba as much as yung kaligayahan ni KC, yun ang what matters to me.

Siyempre, nami-miss nila yung team-up. Lahat naman tayo nami-miss yun. Beloved loveteam ‘yan, e, so yun lang naman. I think, klaro naman lahat yun. I’m just happy, everyone’s okay, everything’s okay, you know, and KC is happy and peaceful. That’s more than enough for me."

Ano naman ang reaksiyon ni KC?

"Naku, tuwang-tuwa!" bulalas niya. "Nandun nga siya nung kinunan yung eksena, e. Kasi nga, dinadalaw niya ako."

Is there a possibility of a mother-daughter movie?

"I’d love to to that. Especially she has already established herself. It would be great to work with my daughter, kahit nga um-extra na lang ako basta isama niya lang ako sa movie."

How about a Sharon-Gabby movie?

"I don’t want to think about it muna," sagot ng aktres. "Parang I don’t want to give the wrong impression na parang he guested in BFF, tapos masusundan na ng movie. That’s more than enough muna. He deserves naman a comeback na siya lang talaga, comeback niya. Kasi he’s still one of the best actors we had here."

How about silang tatlong nina KC at Gabby sa isang movie?

"Dyino-joke nga namin yun, e. Pero right now, mas excited ako sa Lovers in Paris nina KC at Piolo."

KC & PIOLO. Speaking of Lovers in Paris, aminado si Sharon na gusto na niyang mapanood ang Pinoy version nito na pinagbibidahan nga ng kanyang anak na si KC with Piolo as leading man.

"At this point, excited akong mapanood yung Lovers in Paris," aniya. "Kasi I know nahirapan sila sa Paris, pero nag-enjoy din. At saka I’m a fan of the original, yung Korean. Siyempre, for us, it’s also a big deal na si Piolo ang kasama niya rito.

"Anybody who treats my daughter with respect is welcome in our home. Si KC never gave me a headache and si Piolo is very respectable.

Kiko as vice president of the Philippines sa 2010 elections. Todo-suporta nga rin Sharon sa kanyang asawa.

"Oo, di ba, ina-announce ko na, ina-announce na niya na he’s running for vice president? Sabi ko nga, kung saan ang asawa ko, that’s where I’ll go.

Siyempre, where my husband goes, that’s where I go," saad ni Sharon.

"Yung campaign naman, next year pa. This year kasi, meron pa akong naka-schedule na dalawang pelikula.

Pero ako, I’ll support him, and he supports me. Pero dun siya magaling sa trabaho niya. Dito ako magaling sa trabaho ko. Basta, pabayaan mo akong mag-enjoy, pababayaan din kita diyan. Pero nagsu-support kami sa isa’t isa.”

LJ Moreno and Jimmy Alapag won’t live together anymore after their roconciliation

"We did live in one house before. But now, it’s all different. Para wala nang pressure since nagsisimula ulit kami.

"Sinabi ko nga na magsasama lang kami kapag kasal na kami, which is the proper thing to do naman, di ba? After we broke up a year ago, naging active ako sa pag-attend ng Bible studies. I realized then na marami akong ginawang pagkakamali sa mga naging relasyon ko.

“I was too open sa mga naging karelasyon ko noon," patuloy niya. I just wanted my own way since I’m of legal age to do what I want.

"But I realized nga na it’s not what you always want to do is right. May mga consequences. Ayoko namang isipin na kaya marami akong naging failed relationships is because I was too giving of myself sa sinuman ang karelasyon ko noon.

“Now that I know better and I’m trying to put the broken pieces of my life together. And I’;m happy that Jimmy came back into my life. After we broke up naman, months after ay nakakapag-usap na kami. We became friends na ulit and we never thought nga na after a year na nag-break kami, we would end up together again. Yun nga lang, may mga changes na and he’s up to it. We both want to make our relationship work for the second time."

NO MARRIAGE TALKS.

“Noong kami pa before, we used to talk about it," sabi ni LJ. "Now, he hasn’t brought up that topic yet. Honestly, he hasn’t proposed to me yet naman. As you can see, wala naman akong engagement ring.

"But it’s okay kasi we’re starting all over again. Both of us are still adjusting to one another again. If it happens, it happens. If he’s serious with it, he better put a ring on it, di ba?" sabay tawa ni LJ.

"It’s going to be a fresh start for us," sambit ni LJ. "Though I won’t be living there, gusto ko rin naman na may input ako sa bahay ni Jimmy. We want to get rid of the old stuff. May nakahalo na kasing negativity, e.

"Jimmy said nga na he would feel more comfortable sa bahay niya kung bago lahat. I agreed on that naman. Alam ko na magastos, pero if it will make both of us feel good about it, then we wouldn’t mind the expenses. We want to have good vibes sa house niya."

NEW SHOWS.

"It’s just like E! True Hollywood Stories. It’s my first time to host a show like this at noong una, kinabahan ako. Pero I enjoyed it at hindi ko akalain na makakagawa ako ng ganitong klaseng show. I want to thank Viva Artist Agency for trusting me with this kind of show," pagtatapos ni LJ.

Willie Revillame to build 400-million-peso theater mall

This was the initial reaction of TV host Willie Revillame after the groundbreaking ceremony for his newest venture, a studio-mall complex, which will soon rise at the Eugenio Lopez Drive, across the audience entrance of giant network ABS-CBN.

The Wowowee host hopes that this studio-mall complex, which will be named Wil Theater Mall, will serve as a multi-purpose building for ABS-CBN employees and the people who plan to watch his noontime show.

Nandiyan na lahat, e," said Willie in an interview after the ceremony this morning, May 13. The TV host said that his 10-storey building will have a spa, a gym, shops, theater, and studio. The building, reportedly worth 400 to 500 million, will be built on his 2,920-square-meter property.

At may isang studio pa rito, dalawang studio itong magkatabi, e, theater mall.

Aside from personal reasons, Willie said that he is also thinking of giving comfort to the avid followers of Wowowee.

Tapos may mga kiosk doon—may pang-fishball, may pansitan-inayos ko talaga lahat for them. Then, ‘yong ating mga TFC [The Filipino Channel] subscribers, dito naman sila sa taas."

ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, Television Head Cory Vidanes, Star Magic head Johnny Manahan, and Wowowee director Edgar Mortiz showed their support to Willie by participating in the ceremony.

FULFILLING HIS DREAM. The popular noontime show host said that this is really one of his dreams.

“ Well, siyempre, lahat naman tayo may pangarap," Willie said when asked why he wanted to build his own theater mall. "Parang Oprah [Winfrey], may sarili siyang studio, may sarili siyang...lahat!

Willie admitted that he got these inspirations from the materials that he read about success stories of prominent people.

Bakit? Nagbibigay inspirasyon sa akin, e. Binabasa ko ‘yong mga taong umasenso sa buhay," he said.

In connection to this, Willie does not want to think that this happened because he just got lucky’
.

And I think ganun talaga ang buhay, e.

Then, he mentioned that another reason why he decided to get into this venture is to leave something for his children when he’s gone.

He also mentioned how grateful he is to the public who gave their full support to his show Wowowee.
